Casea KOPPERT entomopathogenic nematodes, useful for the control of various harmful insects of stone fruits, outdoor vegetables and city trees

Casea KOPPERT is a product composed of entomopathogenic nematodes and can be used for the biological control of various harmful insects of stone fruits, outdoor vegetables and city trees. The nematodes contained within Casea penetrate the parasites releasing symbiotic bacteria into their body cavities. These bacteria turn the host's tissue into a food source that the roundworms feed on and on which they develop and reproduce, killing the parasite within hours to days of infection.
Controlled pests:
- Lepidoptera: Fall yelk (Spodoptera spp.), cotton elotid (Helicoverpa armigera), maize elotid (Helicoverpa zea), tomato plusia (Chrysodeixis chalcites), grey worms (Agrotis spp.), Silver Y moth (Autographa gamma), boxwood borer (Cydalima perspectalis), palm chestnut (Paysandisia archon),
- Coleoptera larvae (Coleoptera): capnodium (Capnodis tenebrionis), elaterids (Agriotes spp.), altic (Phyllotreta spp.)
- Larvae and adult specimens of beetle (Coleoptera): red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus), South American palm weevil (Rhynchophorus palmarum)
- Tipulidae/Tipulidae larvae: Tipula spp.
- Rhynchotes (heteroptera): plane tree tingid (Corythucha ciliata)
Product composition:
Pack of 3,000 million: 4 sachets of 750 million pieces in one box
- 86% Steinernema carpocapsae
- 14% inert biodegradable backing material.
How to use it?
Preparation phase:
- Take the sachets out of the box and keep them at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Empty the contents of the sachets into a bucket containing at least 2 litres of water per sachet (water temperature: 15-20 °C)
- Shake well and let the contents soak for 5 minutes.
- Shake again and pour the contents of the bucket into the nebulizer tank half full (in the case of mixing in the tank with a compatible product, add Casea at the end with the tank completely filled).
- Continue to stir the mixture in the tank (e.g. with a recirculating pump).
- Fill the sprayer with the required amount of water
- Apply directly after the solution is prepared.
Application phase:
- Apply nematodes using an agricultural atomizer, vehicle-mounted spray unit, backpack sprayer, or via an irrigation system
- To avoid clogging, all filters should be removed, especially those less than 0.3 mm (50 mesh) thick.
- Apply a maximum pressure of 20 bar/290 psi (on the nozzle).
- The opening of the spray nozzle must be at least 0.5 mm (35 mesh); conical nozzles with a high flow rate are preferred.
- Continue stirring to prevent nematodes from settling at the bottom of the tank
- Avoid sprayers equipped with centrifugal or piston pumps.
- The temperature of the water tank should not exceed 25 °C. The pH should be between 4 and 8.
- Distribute the solution to be sprayed evenly over the soil/soil.
- Casea KOPPERT, is generally applied to combat foliar pests with a concentration of between 1 and 3 million nematodes per liter of spray solution (on average 1.5 billion/ha or 0.6 billion/acre) and to combat soil pests with a concentration of between 500 million and 3 billion/hectare (between 200 million and 1.2 billion/acre).
- The soil moisture level should be kept high for several days after application. Irrigate the crop before and immediately after administration, where possible.
Favorable environmental conditions for using Casea:
- Steinernema carpocapsae is active between 14-34 °C, but works best at temperatures between 19-31 °C
- Soil or air temperatures below 5 °C and above 35 °C can be fatal
- Nematodes are very sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) rays: do not use them in direct sunlight.
- Spray in the evening hours (or in the morning in some cases) so as to allow the nematodes to perform their task for several hours in an optimal range of temperature and humidity
- Upon receipt, remove the boxes from the insulating packaging. Store in a refrigerator or cold storage away from light and ventilated(a) until ready to use.
