Weaning a dog begins around the 20th day of life, a few days later for dwarf breeds. A solid diet will need to be administered progressively.
At this stage we recommend rations of puppy food, cut into small pieces and moistened with water
After 45 days of life, larger pieces will be administered, with less water, which will be provided separately.
After two months of life, the dog is usually considered weaned.
Puppy food
Puppy food should be formulated as much as possible for the breed of dog and rationed according to the doses indicated on the label or by the veterinarian.
Exceeding the food ration at this stage can lead to osteo-articular pathologies, especially in large and giant breed dogs.
Four meals a day are recommended with equal breaks between meals during weaning and three meals for puppies after weaning.
After six months, two daily meals can be administered.
It is necessary not to give the last meal too late, as the dog may need to go out within a short time of his dinner.
